About

History

Grouby Field, named for Autauga County Probate Judge E.A. Grouby, was built in early 1973 after some 20 years of planning. It started as a 3500-foot paved strip, complete with landing lights for night operations. Hangars, an administration building followed in the Spring, then came the planes! The Airport Authority was established by the commission on April 19, 1983 to take over operations at Grouby Field. In 1988, the runway was expanded from 3500 feet to 5400 feet in order to handle business jets as well as larger multi-engine aircraft.

Today, Prattville Airport Grouby Field thrives with a new terminal building, a new road leading into the airport, corporate hangars, a parallel taxi-way and fuel trucks. Inside, you’ll find flat-screen televisions, a pilots lounge complete with private bath, a pilot planning room and friendly employees ready to assist with whatever you need.
